Happy Saturday and Happy Winter… finally!!
With the unseasonably warm temperatures we’ve felt in Omaha lately, looking forward to spring fashion at the beginning of January doesn’t seem so unrealistic. We at BUNGALOW/8 have just been DYING over photos of all the Spring collections and while we’re still swaddling ourselves in wool, velvet, and fur, we can’t help but drool over what came down the runway this season.
As a lover of ultra-feminine looks, I am beyond delighted to see the figure-flattering peplum cut coming back in vogue. I can’t wait to pair the shape with a perfectly tailored pencil skirt and a pair of statement sunglasses, the best part of warm-weather dressing.
Chanel’s ready-to-wear collection for spring has been a favorite of ours here in the salon. Nothing like some stand-out futuristic looking Chelsea boots paired with impeccable suiting in luxurious pastels and stark whites and creams. In the salon, we’ve all been playing with color and pattern. Some of us have been mixing stripes and patterns, a trend I feel we’ll see for seasons to come. Others have been experimenting with monochromatic looks, something that’s easy to pull off and looks very chic on a budget.
In terms of hair, or, the best part of fashion, what we’re seeing on the runway is contributing to what we’re seeing on the streets more than it ever has. Ombre color and more lived-in, sexy texture are proving to have more staying power than I ever thought they would. In many spring collections, deep side-parts are all the rage, a great way to adjust your look without losing all the length you’ve worked so hard for. At Sonia Rykiel, deep side-parts were adorned with lovely minimal black barrettes, a great way to add interest and keep misbehaving hairs in place.
As in past seasons, we continue to see braids, waves, and towering top knots galore. While I am absolutely delighted by the continuing trend of legitimately STYLING one’s hair, it is important to continue to keep it in the best of shape by implementing a hair maintenance routine. We at BUNGALOW/8 Hairdressing are proud to announce our new relationship with Kerastase, a brilliant European treatment line focused on maintaining and restoring the fabric of the hair, making it possible to style and restyle day-in and day-out. Healthy hair is always in style, and Kerastase’s rich masques, custom-blended, in-salon Fusio-dose treatments, and luxurious home hair care products are something we are so proud to be able to offer our clients from this day forward.
With frills, finery, and long-lush-luminous locks,
Rebecca Forsyth | stylist

Can you believe that it is already Thanksgiving?! This year has just flown by and our winter holidays are right around the corner. The holidays bring us dinners, cocktail events, corporate holiday parties, and get-togethers not to mention all of the social and charitable events to raise money and awareness for our local (and global) causes.
With so much to do and so little time, we find that the day-to-evening transition gets shorter and shorter (if it even exists at all). Focusing on a simple, classic style is the key to an effortless chic appearance in the boardroom and in the ball room. Our friends at www.stylelist.com helped us by doing all of the leg work. They went through the 1950’s and found us some of the best hair that is still translateable today.
If you don’t want to commit to a 24/7 style straight out of the American Golden Age, then you can use some of the styles as inspiration to help get you ready for all of your social obligations and frivolities. Try a primly waved bob (or faux-bob for our long haired friends), a Rockabilly Quif (which is a fun UK term for a “pompadour”), or a sleek and simple ponytail. You will be the talk of your friends with an endless source of inspiration for great style through the coming holiday season.
Check out the story and pick your favorite. If you find trouble achieving a style or just want to have fun, join BUNGALOW/8 Hairdressing for our 3rd annual “Blowdry Bootcamp” where our stylists will take some time to teach you how to give yourself the ultimate round brush blowdry, a never-will-fall top knot, beautiful mermaid waves, or a pin-straight style for a modern look. Join us on the up-coming Fridays for wine, appetizers, and style instruction.

Getting a salon-worthy blowout every day is a dream for most women when it comes to kids, career, and social obligations, but it doesn’t have to just be a dream. First and foremost, you need to have the perfect haircut for your face-shape. Finding a technically precise stylist who is an expert in haircutting to set the foundation is one of the most important aspects of looking and feeling beautiful every day. Along with finding the right stylist for a perfect haircut, the second biggest mistake people make is cutting their own fringe. At BUNGALOW/8, all bang trims are complimentary which allows the stylist to keep your bang piece melted into your hairstyle.
Next, keeping your hair in tip-top shape is also something that is of the utmost importance. Staying away from over processing, too much color, and too much heat will preserve the integrity of your hair. It is easy to trash your hair with the wrong products and too much styling, so spend your beauty budget on good products and chill on the heat tools.
Next, when you are in the salon with your favorite stylist, take the time to ask questions and request that your stylist actually teach you to style your hair at home. There are a myriad of tips and tricks the professionals use in tandem with professional styling products and boar-bristle brushes to replicate the salon style in your own bathroom. These small nuances will make or break your home-based blowdry.
Want to become a pro at styling your hair sans salon? Join BUNGALOW/8 and our team of extraordinary stylists for our third annual Blowdry Bootcamp and spend an hour with us for instruction on the basics of the blowdry, special event styling, and hair tips and tricks. Also, get a recommendation from your stylist about the perfect products to make achieving a salon-worthy blowdry at home easier!

When seasons change, our way of dressing generally shifts as well (especially in the snowy Midwest). When employing a new wardrobe, it becomes important to continue that transition into your hair color and make-up palette as well.
In terms of hair, in the salon I generally shift most of my clients to darker and warmer tones each winter; this includes taking many of my blondes to a warmer and richer color spectrum. When taking the change of hair color into consideration, we must also look at changing the way we care for our thirsty locks. Bumble and bumble’s Quenching line provides great moisture and color protection as well as therapy for the terribly thirsty. Additionally, Bumble’s Creme de Coco line and Gentle Shampoo paired with Super Rich Conditioner are perfect choices to beat the dry, staticy winter air. Placing a bottle of these hair-hydrators in my shower has been an annual winter hair ritual especially considering my snow-white tresses.
As your hair color and clothing changes, many of us often forget to transition our make-up as well. Here are some ideas to help you make the winter transition easy:
Lips: Lip colors become darker and more matte which compliments our skin as it lightens through the fall and winter months.
Eyes: Eye combinations tend to become more smoky and dramatic with the shift to rich browns, grays, charcoal, and jewel tones. Don’t forget your brows!! Brow shaping becomes more and more important as the winter months trudge on. Brow powders in tones that compliment the change in hair color fill sparse spots and complete a fuller, bolder shape.
Skin/Complexion: Moisturizers become thicker as our skin becomes dryer and needs more protection from the cold, dry wind. Foundations and powders become lighter and more translucent as our pigment loses that summer sun-kiss. Tuck your bronzers into the back of your cabinet and pull out your blushes to play up cheeks this season. Make sure to invest in great lip balm and eye creme to ensure your face is protected from Old Man Winter.
Check out this great article about fall/winter make-up from Harper’s Bazaar Magazine that also provides great fall style for hair and make-up. http://www.harpersbazaar.com/beauty/makeup-articles/fall-2011-beauty-trends-highlights#fbIndex1

The expert stylists at BUNGALOW/8 Hairdressing have fallen in love with this season’s hottest trend; ROSE GOLD. From it’s inception, the stylists have embraced the rosey hue whether it is found in a rose gold watch, shimmery rose gold nails, a metallic rose gold shirt or- you guessed it- awesome rose gold hair.
Creating this luxe result with classic hairdressing techniques is a process for specialized colorists. The result is effortless and beautiful. Champagne, blush, and pink colored colored hair create an unexpected burst of soft femininity that pairs nicely with rich fall hues.
During this year’s Fashion Week runway shows in New York, Peter Som enlisted Wella stylists to infuse panels of varying rose-gold tones in each model’s hair that coordinated with his designs seamlessly. At BUNGALOW/8, our colorists have the tools (including professional Wella color), technique (we call it advanced education), and expertise (also dubbed “experience”) to translate this hot trend from runway to real-world.

Bedrooms with Luxe fabrics
I love, love bedrooms with great fabrics either adorning the windows, the pillows, and furniture, or turned into amazing duvet covers and bedspreads. Even more, I love fabrics that are embellished with finishing trims such as bullion fringe, tassel fringe, and scallop edging. I think drapes and bedding that is finished with such beautiful accessories as tassels make everything look so expensive. (The cool think is that you can add your own trim to store-bought curtains and bedding to make a custom look.) Get yourself an inexpensive four-poster bed, put up drapery rails, cover your bed in some heavy fabrics and let that inspire the rest of your soft spaces!!
Men’s Grooming
Gone are the days of the Rat Pack and men wearing 3-piece suits as every day wear. I am loving the return of men’s grooming and style. Every ad you look at has men in amazingly tailored suits (which can be inexpensively purchased at places like Banana Republic or your local department store). After your suit purchase, or the purchase of a blazer, trousers, or front-button shirts, you can have them perfectly fit to your body by visiting your local tailor for a custom (and expensive) look.
Also, I am seeing a resurgence of style when it comes to men’s haircutting. Great “Mad Men” haircuts and styles grace the pages of any fashion ad in magazines such as Bazaar, Vogue, and Vanity Fair. Men are also beginning to embrace the importance of keeping a clean, professional look with shaven or trimmed faces and coiffed hair. Shampoo AND conditioning is just as important as a good shave cream, oil, or balm to set the base for healthy hair. After the shower, the correct grooming products are important for your hair. Products such as Bumble and bumble’s Grooming Crème and Sumotech as well as Styling Wax or Brilliantine put the perfect polish on any man for work or play.
Fringe and Golden Blondes
They say bangs aren’t for everyone, but I think that (almost) every woman can have some type of fringe or bangs. Fringe is like a picture frame to your face that helps achieve the ideal face-shape, which is oval. Soft, wispy bangs help create a feminine and care-free look while box-bangs (my favorite) offer up a strong statement. Crash bangs help achieve a punk or Avant Garde look that can be really fun as they grow out.
Warm golden blondes, as opposed to ashy-blue/gray blondes bring a warmth and softness to the typically boring blonde hair color. This can range from creamy butter blondes at the lightest of the spectrum to deep golden honey blondes that bring dimension to our dark-blonde friends. When thinking of the perfect blonde for you, take into account your skin tone, make-up palate, and eye color and then welcome all shades of blondes that coordinate with those colors. The stylists at BUNGALOW/8 are color experts and can make you the best blonde (and brunette and red head) you can be!!
Surprising Nails
One thing that I really love is fun, unexpected nail colors, patterns, and designs. Gone are the days of boring red and black nails. Creative nail artists can Ombre your nails in progression from lightest to darkest, they can mix matte with shine, or combine Minx foil with polish. The creative options are endless and, let me tell you, people notice!!
Louis Vuitton
My one and only most beloved material item is (mostly) anything made from Louis Vuitton. The bags from this fashion house have been making headlines lately from their Fall-Winter 2011/2012 collection which I have fallen head-over-heels for! From this line, I have the Fetish Monogram Clutch with cuff which was released in a limited quantity on August 15th. Marc Jacobs was part of the duo that designed this collection and he designed this bag from the inspiration that women feel “chained to fashion”. It a great fashion bag and a beautiful, high-shine clutch with a really awesome brass cuff for your wrist. Others that love this clutch are Rachel Zoe, Angelina Jolie, and Harper’s Bazaar Magazine.
The new Monogram Addiction is coming out in October. My favorite in this line is the Lock-It bag which is a top-handle bag that will be in navy PVC-esque fabric and a 3-D embroidered Monogram print. I think the Monogram Addiction is amazing and I hope to be able to snag one when they are released.
